Project Title: De-Sync

//Sync : (sĭngk) : verb : make synchronous and adjust in time or manner
De-Sync is a series of animated interfaces created with Adobe Flash. Each interface allows different levels of interactivity by applying motion onto the trackpad.

Each button within the interface is assigned sound, color and sequence. Without user interactivity, the buttons are in sync and run autonomously to create an animated surface.

In an event where user gesture interrupts synchronicity of the original sequence, the user
“de-syncs” the moused-over buttons, causing them to run independently. The next user comes in and adds on more gestures to the already “de-sync-ed” animation. As a result, buttons which now run independently adapt a new rhythm, together they create an animated surface which is unique on its own. This new animated surface becomes the end result of collective user interactivity.

Human computer synchronicity is also about technology replicating the way we embody motion, color, sound and tactility in real world.
Are we in or out of sync with reality when we play with virtual buttons which make sounds that are supposed to be made by us operating instruments?
